  • Incense is packaged by volume in 1 oz corked glass jar
  • Contains enough incense for 10-15 smolders of each blend on charcoal, far more uses can be had if using a ceramic wax warmer.
  • A small amount goes a long way!
  • Handmade in single batches with joy and intention, and responsibly and ethically sourced plant material. There’s no perfumes or fragrances added. Please use mindfully to preserve this natural medicine.

*** Our Copal is sourced directly from a family in Mexico that collects it from their own trees following ancient tradition and a 4-year rotating process (a group of trees is used for 4 years and then let to rest for 4 years while another group of trees is used.)

To be burned with intention using an incense burner / heat proof dish over charcoal or with a wax warmer.

Burning loose incense is a unique experience. The endless combinations in every pinch you place onto the hot charcoal makes for a dynamic aromatic experience, as the proportion of herbs and resins in each pinch will be slightly different from the one that burned before.

These charcoal discs are quick-igniting.

  • Prepare your vessel:

A screened charcoal burner like this one is best!
Make sure the screen in concave, this way it will create a nook for the disc to stay in place inside your burner.
(Charcoal touching metal won’t burn, so if your burner does’t have a screen place sand in the bottom of the vessel, and place charcoal on top)

This is important: make sure your container is heat-proof, metal is definitely the BEST option. Charcoal gets very hot! Other materials can/will break and you can end up starting a fire. Please be cautious.

  • Light the charcoal with a candle or a torch lighter.

Quick-igniting charcoal will start sparkling. Avoid the smoke released from the sparkles. (For not quick-igniting charcoal we suggest burning it for a couple of minutes on stovetop or on burner with torch lighter)

Always hold charcoal with tongs.

  • When charcoal gets a ring of ash, it’s ready for the incense!

Add a pinch of loose incense (with fingers if you are careful, or use a metal spoon if you’re extra careful)
Resin will boil, then melt into the charcoal. Herbs burn faster, wait until they are charred to scrape them off the charcoal to add more.

This is why screened burners are the best! It’s so easy to scrape them off into the vessel!

To make the charcoal burn hotter or faster, tap the ashes off, leave the ashes if you choose a slower burn.

The smoke from burning incense is a vehicle that can carry prayers.

Burn with intention, offer during ceremony, rituals, times of healing, meditation and meaningful life events.

Three ways of burning loose incense:

  • With charcoal:

Charcoal allows to get started right away.
Fill a heat proof dish with soil or sand or use a censor.
Light the edge of a charcoal disc using tongs.
If you are using self-ignite discs you will see it emits sparks.
The disc will then light throughout by itself. It should be left in the incense burner until fully lit. It will soon glow red and is ready to burn your incense.

When ready, place a pinch or two of incense directly on top of the hot disc. A fragrant smoke will emerge immediately. Watch the herbs and resin transform with the heat. Remove burnt herbs from charcoal before adding more, add as much or as little as you need each time.

Use caution when working with fire and hot charcoal. Do not leave unattended.

  • With wax warmer:

Smolder on a ceramic wax warmer to diffuse incense more gently.

Do not leave unattended.

  • Direct fire

Pour about 1/3 into a heat proof bowl and light with a candle or hemp wick. The burn will be shorter but this is a quicker method.
Use caution when working with fire. Do not leave unattended.

Inhale and exhale deeply. Allow yourself to bask into the experience.
